Benahavis
Benahavis the jewel of the Costa del Sol, it is a beautiful whitewashed inland village just 7km from the coast. Benahavis is in one of the most mountainous areas and has the most remarkable and picturesque views of the western Costa del Sol. Benahavis is also the richest municipality in Spain because of the area 'La Zagaleta'.
The area around Benahavis is prestigious, largely due to its proximity to the coastal towns of Marbella and Puerto Banus. The outlying area of Benahavis is home to nine golf courses and numerous restaurants, often referred to as the 'Dining Room or Pan of the Costa del Sol'.
Benahavis is located inland, halfway between the coastal towns of Marbella and Estepona near the beautiful Sierra de las Nieves yet close to the coast.
History
The town center is home to a number of historic sites, including the 18th-century Virgen del Rosario Church and a 16th-century palace. Overlooking the town, there is the castle of Montemayor, built in the 10th century. For many years this castle was an important strategic fortress that played an important role in battles between the Arab kings of Al Andalus. It proved to be an invaluable location for many years with such impressive views over the Mediterranean Sea to a hundred kilometers from the coast and the African coast, which was important at a time of invasions and piracy.

It takes about two hours to complete the 3 km long trail.

This park has an important historical Arab watch tower hence the name Tower Leonares which was once used to control access to the Valley of the Guadalmina River. In all it’s a small haven away from the hustle and bustle of the coast.
- Castillo de Montemayor : History and nature lovers may be interested to visit one of the emblematic monuments of Benahavis, the ruins of the Castle of Monte Mayor.

As with restaurants, there is no shortage of golfing opportunities around Benahavis, with nine golf courses nearby.
